are many ways to be charitable to Bridges...A Community Support
System, Inc.
Some common options follow. For further information about
these options, please contact the Development Office or your attorney,
CPA or other estate-planning professional.
A gift can
be of any size. Cash or in-kind gifts, gifts of appreciated securities
or personal property are typically the most common and often the
most feasible. Cash gifts may be deducted at rates of up to 50%
of one’s adjusted gross income; gifts of appreciated property, including
securities, are deductible at rates up to 30%.
Individual, Corporate or Foundation Donors may designate gifts as:
Unrestricted: to be used where Bridges needs it most to meet the needs of clients.
Restricted: providing options for you to determine how your contribution will
be used.
Businesses may also support Bridges through:
Corporate Matching gift programs
In-kind donations of goods and services.
Other Ways to Give
Bequests: gifts named in a person’s will.
- For a stated amount
- For a stated item
- A percent of the estate
- A remainder of an estate

I hereby give and bequeath to Bridges...A Community Support System,
Inc., with corporate offices located in Milford, Connecticut, the
sum of $ (or X% of my total estate) (or the property
described) (or the rest, residue and remainder of my property, both
real and personal) to be used where the need is greatest as determined by the Board of
Directors.
Charitable Remainder Trust: donors take a one-time charitable deduction
in the year the trust is formed and receive income from the trust for
life. Upon the donor's death, the assets of the trust are distributed
to a designated charity like Bridges...A Community Support System,
Inc.
Charitable Lead Trust: a variation on the remainder
trust that provides for a fixed amount to be paid annually to a charity
like Bridges for a specific period of time. Upon the termination of
the trust, the remainder passes to the donor's heirs.
Life Insurance Policy: a donor can vest all ownership
rights in the policy to Bridges. The donor can pay the annual premium
with yearly tax-deductible contributions. Upon the donor's death, the
proceeds from the insurance policy pass to Bridges and/or other charities,
free from estate taxes.
Personal Property---such as books, artwork, jewelry
Real Estate---An outright gift of property or estate
or a remainder interest in property where the donor retains life use
Special Tribute Gifts---Memorial or Honorary
